Child passenger safety is something we are very passionate about. We have been helping the NHTSA to share the information and educate our readers on this topic. In fact, we will be posting a few more things in the next week about it.

During Child Passenger Safety Week (September 17-23, 2017), Britax and Lexus are hosting car seat installation demonstrations across the country for expecting and new parents at seven different dealerships at the #TestDriveParenthood Events!

Britax will also be debuting their new Endeavour Infant Car Seat at these events. Head over to Momma Lew’s Blog to read all about how Britax is raising the bar when it comes to car seat safety here!

We teamed up with Momma Lew for a giveaway for one lucky reader to win one of these Britax Endeavour car seats! Car seat prize value ($299), prize cannot be substituted for cash or other merchandise and cannot be shipped outside of the United States; if you elect to review and keep the car seat you may not sell it and it carries no cash value; if you award one of the car seats from the demonstration your winner must be able to pick up the prize from you (ideally at the event); the prize MAY NOT be exchanged or awarded inside the Lexus dealership. Contest open to U.S. residents only. (giveaway ends Saturday, September 30 at 12:00 AM CST). Enter to win through the giveaway tools below!

We were not compensated for sharing this giveaway. We just feel the messages are important and want to give our readers the opportunity to win a quality car seat, especially as many of you travel with your family.

Child Passenger Safety on Roadtrips

Did you know that every 33 seconds a child under 13 is involved in a car crash in the United States? That probably isn’t the first thing you think about when you are hauling your kids to school, the grocery store, or anywhere else around town. And really, you shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not your child is safely snuggled into the right car seat every time you get in the car. Instead, make sure your child is in the right seat from the get-go.

We here at I Love Family Travel are passionate about ensuring child passengers are safe. We’ve participated in several events this year in different parts of the country to educate parents.  Child Passenger Safety Week (September 17-23, 2017) is a great time to brush up on car seat safety tips and make sure your child is in the right seat, with the right fit and installation. This topic is especially important for travelers. Not only do we take road trips, but we also must bring seats with us while traveling, and having to install it multiple times.

During Child Passenger Safety Week, more than 1000 events are expected in 45 states across the country to raise awareness for proper car seat installation and usage. The week culminates in “Seat Check Saturday,” where Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will help parents and caregivers make sure their car seats are installed correctly. In most cases, this service is FREE.

There are so many resources available to parents like NHTSA.gov/TheRightSeat, which has videos about how to install car seats and booster seats correctly and guides to picking the right seat by age and size.

Here’s a video that has been helpful for us:

The right car seat can make all the difference in a crash. Car seats, if used correctly, can dramatically reduce the risk of death or injury. But over half of car seats are either installed or used incorrectly, and 1 in 3 children killed in car crashes in 2015 was not in a car seat, booster seat, or seat belt at the time of the crash.

To make sure you have the right seat for your child, visit NHTSA.gov/TheRightSeat, or find a Child Passenger Safety Week event in your area. During Child Passenger Safety Week, many communities will have Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians on-hand to provide education on how to use car seats, booster seats, and seat belts for children. To find events near you, including free car seat checks, visit bit.ly/CPSTech.

Shop With Your Heart to Help Farm Animals

We all care about animals but sometimes we don’t always think about the animals that help produce our food – especially during the holiday season. So, this season the ASPCA, Food Chain Workers Alliance, GRACE Communications Foundation, and the Natural Resource Defense Council are working hard to arm consumers with the information they need before they head to the grocery store for holiday shopping. And they are focusing on farm animal welfare by doing so.

Here are some tips for being a savvy consumer while supporting humane practices!

Don’t Be Duped – Marketing schemes can play a huge factor when it comes to food purchases. So often consumers want to buy humanely-raised food, but labels can be meaningless or downright misleading at times! What’s the difference between “all-natural” or “free-range” or “cage-free”? That’s why the ASPCA has produced guides like this one to help consumers distinguish what matters.

Don’t Waste the Food You Have – Your family can reduce your holiday grocery bill – and food waste – by serving the right portion sizes and storing leftovers properly. A Good Groceries Guide will help you understand how all these elements fit together to help people, animals, and ultimately the planet

Buy Locally – Shopping locally, like from your local farmer’s market or CSA, can keep your shopping dollars in your local area and also decrease the need for factory-farmed foods. Check out the ASPCA guide for shopping locally and how to begin conversations with local producers in your area.

Shop With Your Heart – At the ASPCA Shop With Your Heart website you’ll find an abundance of options for healthy and humane food choices, along with tips on how to begin to implement them in your own family.

As consumers we have all the power to shift the focus of major companies and corporations. And that begins with understanding how our shopping choices can directly affect the lives of the animals that help bring us the meals we serve our family.

Enter for your chance to win some fun items from the ASPCA!

How to Score Big When You Shop Goodwill

This post is being shared as part of a Bloggin’ Mamas social good campaign. No monetary compensation was received for posting this helpful information below.

When you #ShopGoodwill you’re not only getting an amazing bargain, you’ve become a job creator and you’re making a significant difference in the lives of individuals living in your community. How? Well, by shopping at Goodwill and by donating your own treasures when you shop, you’re providing them with the means to help people with employment training, job placement services, financial education, youth mentoring and more. Goodwill® is a great organization to support all year round because every 23 seconds of every business day, someone gets a job through the help of a local Goodwill.

What are you looking for? New items to help you decorate? Fun items to try your first DIY project? Need to furnish and decorate your new house or apartment on a budget? Try spending some time at your local Goodwill store! With Goodwill taking in thousands of donations across the U.S. every day, they are continually stocking their shelves with some of the most unique and fun items that you can turn into your own treasures!

Now – you certainly can just walk into the store and pick up those things that talk to you and really grab your attention. But, to find those excellent deals, there really is an art to it! While some may not have the patience for this kind of shopping – many of us find the thrill of the hunt both rewarding and challenging.

Here are my top 10 tips for finding those perfectly unique items at the best prices:

  • Go Early – The early bird gets the worm, right? As with anything you want to get first pick on, going early generally gives you the leg up on any items that were put out the day before.
  • Know Sale Days and Types – Goodwill stores are known for their colored tag sales. Find out which colors represent which sales and what days they have each sale. So, you’re armed with the information to find the best items at the best prices.
  • Visit Often & At Multiple Locations – If you can go on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday – you may score better finds. A lot of the donations come in over the weekend and it can take time to get through them all and get them onto the floor for your shopping frenzy. But, that doesn’t mean skip other days.
  • Shop Off Season – It may be the dead of winter, but you know eventually you are going to want to throw on that cute summer dress. Why not check out what is in stock, but not necessarily in season? If no one else is doing the same – you may just score big!
  • Shop When Seasons Change – Changing seasons usually means pulling out stored winter clothes, decluttering for incoming new items during the holidays, and during the spring and summer, you can always count on a ton of donations.
  • Check the Whole Store, Look at EVERYTHING – While the stores do an amazing job at organizing things (especially the clothes), that doesn’t mean that you won’t find that one thing you simply cannot live without in another part of the store. If you are there already, you may as well walk the entire store.
  • Touch Everything – If you’re just browsing, especially in the clothes isles, you are bound to miss the most awesome items. Flip through every single piece! Plus, by touching, you can analyze the material of whatever you’re looking at, whether it is clothes or furniture, to see if it fits your needs. This is how you find those hidden gems.
  • Get Creative – With so many DIY tutorials out there today, even those of us who have 0 creativity can refurbish and do some amazing things with lost treasures. Don’t shortchange yourself. See something you love? Whip out your cell phone and find a post or video to inspire you.
  • Shop When You Travel – Going on vacation? Look up a Goodwill store! Every store has something different to offer and you never know what you might find 2, 3 or 10 states away!

Find your local Goodwill or a Goodwill while you’re traveling here http://www.goodwill.org/locator/. Found some incredible items on your latest shopping trip? Share them with us on Social using the #ShopGoodwill hashtag!

LEGO NINJAGO Days Comes to LEGOLAND Florida This Weekend

Disclosure: We received tickets to attend and cover this event. No additional compensation was received, and all opinions expressed are our own.

LEGOLAND Florida has an all-new event, LEGO NINJAGO Days, coming this weekend. Papo & Dittles are so excited to get their Ninja on! The official event dates are Jan. 20-21, 27-28, and Feb. 3-4.  This event is your chance to celebrate your favorite ninja heroes with exclusive in-park activities and meet-and-greets with Kai, Nya and for the first time ever – Master Wu!  In addition to the meet-and-greets, there will also be delicious, kid-friendly treats and the debut of a 12-minute, “4D” theatrical attraction, “LEGO NINJAGO: Master of the 4th Dimension.”

“LEGO NINJAGO: Master of the 4th Dimension” opens Jan. 20.  This exciting new theatrical experience combines dazzling 3D computer animation with “4D” real-world effects as ninjas Lloyd, Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane and Nya must find their way out of a mind-bending dimension filled with eye-popping visuals. See it daily in the Wells Fargo Fun Town Theater! We’ve had the opportunity to check out Ninjago movies in the past, so we are so excited to see what they have in store now.

Meet Master Wu for the first time at LEGOLAND® in Fun Town, and then head to Imagination Zone to meet L-Lloyd from THE LEGO® NINJAGO®MOVIE for event weekends only.  Then head over to NINJAGO World for special appearances from Kai and Nya! We had the chance to meet Kai and Nya before, and they were awesome!

Test your yoga skills with Ninjoga courses for kids, and then become the ninja in LEGO NINJAGO World, where kids can do battle against familiar foes like Lord Garmadon and the Great Devourer aboard LEGO NINJAGO The Ride, and participate in ninja training camp activities.

If you happen to be staying LEGOLAND® Hotel or Beach Retreat, you can purchase a NINJAGO®gift basket (while supplies last) to make your stay extra special for your little brick fans! Be sure to add this extra when you book your package. Additionally, at night the LEGOLAND® Hotel will host a Ninja Training School, a competition build, a scavenger hunt and special guest appearances. The LEGOLAND® Beach Retreat will have a NINJAGO warrior obstacle course and a scavenger hunt.

Download the full event guide here.

Follow us along on Saturday, January 20th, via #NINJAGODays on social media.

Yesterday We Became Ninjas at Legoland

If you’ve been following our blog, you might’ve seen our post about LEGO NINJAGO Days at Legoland Florida this week. Yesterday, we had the chance to participate in this special event thanks to being provided media tickets. We were not monetarily paid for this post, and the following experiences and opinions are our own.

LEGOLAND Florida

We started off our morning by picking up our ninja masks at the gate and stopping by the Market Restaurant Coffee Shop, where we had the chance to sample one of the special themed food creations.

NINJAGO Days Sushi

This mock sushi tray featured a chocolate-dipped fortune cookie; three Rice Krispies Treat sushi rolls with Swedish Fish, Fruit Roll-Ups, and fruit snack fish; a rice krispy wasabi ball; a chocolate dipping sauce; and of course, a pair of chopsticks.  Dittles immediately grabbed the fortune cookie and bit into it right away. Needless to say, she loved it.

After we got our morning snack in, we headed to the Merry-Go-Round, because it’s one of our favorite stops.

Then it was off to grab the scavenger hunt paper, so we could explore Mini-Land while hunting for Master Wu. We can’t say much, but you won’t find it where you think you will. Once you think you’ve find him in the places, you bring back the paper and trade it for this special edition Lego brick and also to be entered to win a giveaway they host each day.

After dropping the paper, we made our way over to Fun Town to catch the first showing of “LEGO NINJAGO: Master of the 4th Dimension.” It’s a short show, about 12 minutes long, and you should probably be prepared to get a little bit wet if you attend.

Meet Master Wu

When you exit the movie, you should find Master Wu outside making an appearance and taking pictures. Be prepared for lines, as he is making his first ever debut.

We made our way around the park, checking out our favorite rides, and then planned to head over to NINJAGO World after lunch, so we can participate in a lot of the ninja-themed events taking place there.

Of course, we started off with NINJAGO The Ride when we got there. This was pretty awesome as usual, and the line was surprisingly quick, especially for a themed day. Mama beat everyone with her score, as she has really mastered the ninja techniques.  Outside the ride were character appearances by Kai and Nya, spaced out to about every half hour.

Martial Artistry NINJAGO Days

In addition to the ride, there are already many installations meant to train your little ninjas. And then, just outside the entrance, there are martial arts demonstrations synchronized to drum beats, played by live drummers. The schedule says it’s 7 minutes long, though it was closer to 10 minutes, and very entertaining. There are several time-slots so you can plan around your schedule. Dittles and Papo are in karate, so they really loved seeing the performers demonstrating moves that they’ve seen in class.

Ninjoga

Next, we headed over to the grass for the Ninjoga class that only takes place once a day. If you get there early, you may have a chance to score a LEGOLAND NINJAGO Days towel. Even if you don’t, they have plenty of white towels for kids to use, and when you trade it in at the end, you get a special edition button. The kids receive a free lesson in which they learn of the elements, and the poses that relate to those elements.

Brick Building Competition

From there it was off to the Imagination Zone where they have even more ninja-themed goodness to explore. If you want, you can even sign up for the Good vs. Evil Build Competition taking place outside of the building. You can then build a ninja or a baddie figure, and place it up front to be judged. One winner each day will win a LEGO prize pack.

NINJAGO Video Game Takeover

You can also check out the Warner Bros. Games Zone, where the NINJAGO Video Game has taken over.

NINJAGO Days themed treat

Inside the building, at the Panini Grill, you can find another themed treat. This oyster pail (i.e. Chinese food takeout container) features a ninja on the box; and lots of goodies inside like popcorn and gummy worms. At a price of only $4, it’s worth it. There are water fountains inside the building, so you can refill your water bottle too!

After letting the kids build for a little while, we began lining up to meet Lloyd, the legendary Green Ninja. He’s only making appearances on event dates right now, so you won’t want to miss that.

Just outside of the Imagination Zone is a ride that we’ve never tried before, the Kid Power Towers. The kids actually pull themselves up and then slowly drop back down. They get to do this several times, and Dittles was ecstatic about it when she got off. She definitely wants to go back on that one when we come back.

NINJAGO Days The Big Shop

After several hours exploring and becoming ninjas, we decided it was time to head out. Before leaving though, we stopped at the Big Shop to pick up some LEGO kits and mini-figs. Papo picked a NINJAGO blind bag and ended up with a sushi chef. So we started our day with kid sushi and ended it with a sushi chef. A complete day indeed.
